Recreation in Brampton
The state-of-the-art Brampton Sports and Entertainment Centre located at 7575 Kennedy Rd. S., seats over 5000 people. This sports venue is the home of the Brampton Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League, and the Brampton
Excelsiors Senior Lacrosse team, winners of six Mann Cup national championships. The four ice pads
at this centre are also used for public skating, figure skating, and hockey leagues.
The City of Brampton operates over 30 recreation facilities that combined offer a myriad of facilities
including: gymnasiums, indoor pools, skateboard parks, squash and tennis courts, skating rinks and
curling. Special aerobic and fitness classes are offered at the South Fletcher’s Sportplex located at 500
Ray Lawson Boulevard, and the Chinguacousy Wellness Centre located at 995 Peter Robertson Boulevard.
The YMCA located at 20 Union Street in downtown Brampton features: an indoor pool, gymnasium, two
squash courts, aerobics studio, rock climbing wall, weight room, and a walking/running track.
Brampton is known as the city of parks. Gage Park located in downtown Brampton across from
the Brampton City Hall, is a pretty strolling park that features an outdoor skating trail in the winter and
concerts in the summer. Professor’s Lake located north of Williams Pkwy. E., and east of Bramalea Road
is a unique man-made lake. Popular activities here include: waterslides, canoes, paddleboats and
windsurfing. Brampton has an extensive network of trails that are used by walkers, joggers, cyclists and
Brampton is a golf lovers paradise, with nine golf courses including: the Peel Village Golf Centre
which is the only municipally owned Audobon award winning golf course in Canada. Lionhead Golf and
Country Club situated at 8525 Mississauga Road, offers two championship courses. In May 2000, Golf
Digest ranked Lionhead’s Legends course, as the third toughest public golf course in North America.
