Recreation in Oakville
The Town of Oakville operates both the Oakville Harbour Marina and the Bronte Harbour Marina , which together offer 1100 slips for sail and power boats. You can take in all the beauty of Oakville’s waterfront from the Town’s award winning heritage trails which are popular with joggers, cyclists, and those out for a casual stroll. The Heritage Trail is marked with information columns and pavilions that unfurl Oakville’s rich history.
Bronte Creek Provincial Park has a campground, nature centre, nature trails, hiking trails, roller blade trails, a 1.8 acre outdoor pool, and a heritage farm. Seasonal festivals at this park include: a Maple Syrup festival, and a Trillium Art Festival on Mothers Day.
Oakville is synonymous with golf, thanks to the award winning Glen Abbey Golf Club, where golf immortal Tiger Woods won the 2000 Bell Canadian Open, and completed golf’s triple crown. The Canadian Golf Hall of Fame and Museum is located on the Glen Abbey grounds at 1333 Dorval Drive. Oakville has a total of eight golf courses including Glen Abbey.
Oakville Parks and Recreation operates three fitness centres including the Glen Abbey Recreation and Aquatic Centre at 145 Third Line, the Iroquois Ridge Community Centre at 1051 Glenashton Drive, and the River Oaks Recreation Centre located at 2400 Sixth Line. Facilities at these centres include: aerobics, spin classes, cardio equipment, indoor running track, indoor pool, squash and racquetball courts, indoor ice rinks, and outdoor tennis courts. Skateboard enthusiasts will want to check out the Oakville Skate Park, located in Shell Park, north of Lakeshore Road, just west of Bronte Road.
