Downtown Georgetown’s Main Street shopping district dates back to the 1820s. This gentrified shopping area features heritage buildings, and a streetscape that includes a distinctive boulevard, regal street lamps and heritage banners. Georgetown’s Main Street has been used as the backdrop for many movie sets.
Locally owned shops, boutiques, restaurants and professional offices comprise the shopping mix here. Every Saturday morning from June until September, Main Street hosts a bustling Framers Market. Parking is free and plentiful.
The Georgetown Market Place mall, located off Guelph Street features over 60 stores including: Loblaws, and Wal-Mart. This shopping mall is situated in a retail district that also includes franchise retailers and restaurants, and many car dealerships.
Downtown Acton is best known for The Olde Hide House who coined the phrase “Its worth the drive to Acton”. This mega-store is Canada’s largest leather outlet with over 8000 square feet of retail space. Downtown Acton also has over 85 shops and services, including popular antique and collectable shops. Downtown Acton hosts numerous annual events including the “Trunk Sale”, which is reputed to be the largest garage sale on wheels. The Trunk Sale is held every Saturday, from May until the end of October. Acton’s Leathertown Festival is held the first Sunday after the August civic holiday. Over 150 vendors participate in this event.
