Recreation in Whitby
Whitby has one of the finest natural harbours on Lake Ontario. The Port Whitby Marina located at 301 Watson Street is the launching pad for sailing, boating and fishing on Lake Ontario. Whitby ‘s 5.7 kilometre waterfront trail is well used by walkers, joggers, cyclists and inline skaters. The Iroquois Park Sports Centre, adjacent to the marina, is one of Canada’s largest sports centres. Sporting events, tournaments, conferences, and trade shows are all held at this centre.
Whitby has two outstanding conservation areas. The Lynde Shores Conservation Area is renowned for its birding and wildlife viewing. The Heber Down Conservation Area’s 633 acres of forest and valleylands is popular with hikers, and canoeists.
