Homes in Whitby

All building in Whitby is subject to strict architectural guidelines put forward by the Town. This is a great initiative, and it works.

The Whitby waterfront, along the shores of Lake Ontario you will find the new Port Whitby Village which has – an appropriate for the area – nautical theme, with bright coloured exteriors, second floor lookout balconies, and lots of windows. When you reach downtown Whitby, just a few minutes north of the waterfront, you will be greeted by a mix of heritage homes that come in all shapes and sizes. These homes are interspersed with many other styles of smaller detached homes and bungalows.

The north-end of Whitby is one of the Greater Toronto Area’s busiest districts when it comes to the building of new homes. Most of the building activity here is centred in the historic Village of Brooklin located at Thickson and Winchester Roads. The new home developers in this part of Whitby have worked closely with town planners to build attractive homes and new neighbourhoods, that are well planned and designed. Many of the subdivisions in Brooklin have an “early Ontario” theme. These houses have Victorian style influences with gabled roofs and inviting front porches. An emphasis has also been placed on streetscapes, with old fashioned street lamps, tasteful landscaping, and public spaces.
