Citadel + Compagnie commemorates the 100th anniversary of The Battle of Vimy Ridge with the Toronto premiere of Jusqu'à Vimy, November 15-18 & 22-25, 2017 at The Citadel: Ross Centre for Dance. Commissioned from choreographer Laurence Lemieux, this dance work honours the tragedy for Canada’s armed forces who perished in one of the country’s most defining World War I moments. Bringing new immediacy to these historic events, Lemieux shines light on the stories of eight fallen soldiers from Toronto’s Regent Park and surrounding area after retracing their steps at the actual site of Vimy Ridge. With dramatic movement set to music by Dora Award-winning composer John Gzowski, Jusqu'à Vimy reveals the personal elements of fear, strength and pride that express the realities of war. Audiences will encounter this history through performance complemented by an interactive multimedia installation with imagery documented from WWI to now at Vimy Ridge.
