Toronto Cyclists GET LIT ! Its FREE
October 24, 2018
Throughout the month of October Cycle Toronto will be highlighting its Get Lit! campaign to support people biking safely around Toronto. Based on "Get Lit" from the Community Cycling Centre in Portland, Cycle Toronto we be setting up orange tents in different locations around the city and will be flagging down unlit cyclists as they pass, educating them on the importance of bike lights and providing them with a free set for a safe ride home. What a tremendous and progressive initiative on the part of Cycle Toronto. So many lives can be saved with this type of education program. This campaign would not be possible without the generous support of the following sponsors: Lead Partner City of Toronto and Vision Zero, and Station Partners Toronto Hydro, Sweet Pete’s Bike Shop, and Redpath Sugar.
Without a light, you become invisible at night. Lights and reflectors make you visible. Ontario law requires that bicycles be equipped with a front white light and either a rear red reflector or a rear red light, from half an hour before sunset to half an hour after sunrise. Lights, reflectors, reflective tape, and bright clothing help people driving and walking see cyclists at night, creating a safer environment for all road users.
Cycle Toronto will be providing lights on Tuesday evenings this October to unlit cyclists in different locations across the city, and chatting with them on the importance of seeing and being seen at night.
Cycle Toronto will announce locations the day of each event. Follow Cycle Toronto on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to find out where you can GET LIT
